Illegal Arrack seized in Vittal


Vittal Police yesterday on the 21-02-2006 siezed a Scorpio vehicle smuggling 8000 sachets of illegally prepared arrack sachets into Kerala state and on further probing discovered a well organized illegal arrack manufacturing unit at Karavapadi village under Vittal PS Limits. At about 1630 pm, on 21-02-2006 while PSI Vittal along with his staff were on rounds on the Kanyana- Manjeshwara road, they noticed a Scorpio vehicle No. KA-19-P-7065, speeding towards Kerala and when he was asked to stop he refused to do so. The vehicle was then pursued and the scorpio driver loosing control over the vehicle fell into a road side ditch. The driver Mohan was immediately rushed for first aid and the vehicle was found to be carrying 8000 illegally prepared arrack sachets, packed in 16 polythene sacs of 500 each. On arresting the driver and questioning him he disclosed that the product was being manufactured at a house in Karavapadi village. The PSI and his team immediately conducted a raid on the place to sieze a Sachet manufacturing machine, 4000 sachets of arrack, 350 liters of spirit and other raw material. On seeing the police team, the boys who were engaged in this job fled from the place. However it is learnt that the house belonged to one Alphonse Ligori D’souza of Karvapadi. Vittal police have taken up two cases in this regard.,

1. Cr. No. 14/06 u/s 32, 34, 43 (1) (ii) of Karnataka Exice Act against Mohan, the driver of the scorpio vehicle, and
2. Cr. No. 15/06 u/s 13, 14, 32, 34, 41 (1) (ii) of Karnataka Exice Act against Alphonse Ligori D’souza and others.

In all about 12000 sachets of illegal arrack, an arrack manufacturing machine, 350 liters of spirit and a scorpio vehicle were seized totally amounting to Rs. 7.5 lakhs.
