The Mangalore South PS staff have arrested a murder case accused who was absconding since the year 1999. The name of the accused has been identified as Somaiah Ganiga @Sharat @ Babu 40 yrs R/o Mangalore city. He was arrested today (14/04/2006) near Lady Ghoshan Hospital. On 05.04/1999 he had murdered one Anusuya 30 yrs w/o Ramesh at Gorigudde Seetha Compound by assaulting her with a iron rod when she refused his sexual advances. Anusuya was the wife of his cousin brother Ramesh and all were living in the same house. On that fateful day Ramesh went to Mumbai on some work. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused tried to attack the deceased sexually. When she tried to resist, he assaulted her with a rod and escaped from the house. In this connection a case of murder was registered against the accused in Mangalore South PS. He however remained could not be caught. The case was chargesheeted by showing the accused as absconding.
Today he had come to Mangalore to look for some work and was wandering near Lady Ghoshan Hospital when some alert public noticed and informed the police. He is being produced before the court after completing the arrest formalities.
