'Hundi' Theif nabbed by Venoor Police, Property Recovered

On 24-04-2006 the Venoor Police received a complaint disclosing that about six hundi's containing cash in coins and notes and a 18gm gold chain were stolen from the Venoor Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple. The complaint also disclosed that the keys of the safe were with one Suryanarayana Bhat and therefore he is the main suspect. A case was taken up under Venoor PS Cr. No. 20/06 U/s 454, 457 & 380 of IPC. The PSI immediately visited the spot and made local enquiries to learn that, the main suspect Surynarayana Bhat was found near the temple on 22-04-2006 at about midnight. Immediately a man hunt was launched for the suspect and he was finally caught at the Kundadabettu Bus Stop on 25-04-06 noon. On subjecting him to thorough interrogation he confessed to comitting the offence and disclosed that after taking away the cash from the hundis, he disposed the empty boxes in the nearby well. The Police team immidiately recovered the empty boxes from the well and the cash ( to the tune of Rs.19,253/- in coins and Rs.3676/- in notes) & gold chain worth Rs 16,000/- from the gents toilet of the temple placed in a gunny bag. The accused is now remanded to judicial custody. The entire property recovered from him is worth about Rs. 38,929/-
