Two Day Workshop on Enforcement of Drug Laws


A two day workshop on 'Enforcement of Drug Laws' for Police Officers and prosecutors of the distict has been organized at the police Guest House Mangalore. The workshop which will go on for two days on the 28th and 29th of this month under the aegis of the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Dakshina Kannada Police was inaugurated by the Addl Director General of Police Shri K S Suresh Babu. In his opening remarks Mr.Suresh Babu complimented the District Police for conducting such regular workshops for the police officers on contemporary subjects and also stressed on the importance of the knowledge of special laws to get conviction and bring the offenders to justice in Drug offences. SPDK Mr.B.Dayananda welcomed the gathering and also explained the puropose of organizing this workshop.
The formal session was presented by Shri N S Dev, Superintendent NCB, Chennai and started with subject of The Global Scenario of Drug Trade - the Indian Situation. This was followed by some important case studies of the recent years. The post lunch session included the Basic provisions and Salient features of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 including amendments in the Act. The closing session dealt with Basic mandatory procedures to be adopted during search seizure and arrest under the NDPS Act 1985. The officers took keen interest in the presentations by seeking clarifications where ever required and also sharing their own experiences in the field. The participants of the workshop included all the Sub-Divisional Police officers and Police Inspectors of the District, Prosecutors and selected members from other ranks of PSIs, ASIs, Head Constables and Constables; in all about 75 of them. The final day (29/04/05) would include presentations on further procedures of Drawing and storage of samples, interrogation and investigation techniques, Stages of trial and requirements of the Courts during trial of cases.
