Surathkal PS: Two Criminals nabbed with Deadly Weapons, Car and Five Talwars Seized

On the evening of 16/01/2006 (at about 1900 hrs), PI Surathkal Mr.T.R.Jagannath received credible information about a white Maruthi car moving under suspicious circumstances at Kulaigudde area of Surathkal PS limits. Immediately he rushed to the spot along with staff in the police jeep. Upon reaching the spot, the police noticed five persons armed with deadly sharp weapons (talwars) standing by the side of a white Maruthi car bearing Reg No KA 19 N 9317. On seeing the police, two of them immediately started the vehicle and sped away towards Surathkal while three others ran away and escaped by taking cover of darkness. The Police however chased the car and succeeded in intercepting it near Surathkal Bus stand. The two inmates of the vehicle were covered up and secured. Then upon searching the car, police found five talwars inside. Both the accused along with the vehicle and weapons were brought to the police station for further enquiry.

On thorough interrogation the accused revealed their names as;
  1. Harish S/o Bhoja Karkera 30 yrs R/o Munchur Mangalore taluk
  2. Ganesh S/o Dinesh Poojary 22 yrs R/o Madya Mangalore taluk

Their enquiry also revealed that they along with the other three (who ran away) belong to the Hindu Jagarana Vedike and are all involved in several communal incidents in the past.

A case has been taken up against them in Surathkal PS charging them for carrying deadly weapons (sec 27 Arms Act) and assembling to commit dacoity or other such serious offence (Sec 399, 402 IPC).

The accused will be produced before the jurisdictional Magistrate after completing their interrogation and other procedural formalities.

The names and other details of the other three escaped accused have been obtained. Efforts are on to trace them.

Thus it can be inferred that the timely intervention of the police and arest of the culprits has helped in averting a major criminal incident in the area.
