Unaccounted Money Seized: Two Arrested

On the morning of 01/06/2007 a police team headed by Asst. Superintendent of Police Puttur Sub-division Dr. Harsha on credible information intercepted a private Bus near Subramanya cross on NH 48 that was coming from Bangalore to Mangalore and apprehended two persons who were carrying huge amount of cash on their person.

The names of the persons as disclosed by them are

1) Abdulla (45) S/o Mohammed R/o Kasaragod District Kerala State.
2) Mohammed Shafi (45) S/o Mohammed R/o Kasarargod District Kerala State.

The total amount of cash being carried by them is found to be Rupees 39,22,769/.
As they were unable to give proper account for this huge amount of money, the same has been seized and both the persons arrested.
In this connection a case in Uppinangady P.S. Cr. No. 118/07 u/s 41 (D), 102 Cr.P.C. has been registered and further investigation taken up.
The source of this money and the purpose for which it was being carried is being probed into. However preliminary investigation indicated that the money belongs to ‘Hawala Racket’ and both the accused are regular ‘Carriers’ of Money.
