Mangalore City: Public Order Situation

Today (29/07/2006) afternoon between 1300 hrs and 1400 hrs, there were four stray incidents of stone pelting in Mangalore city in which two showrooms, one bus and one auto rickshaw were targeted. In one such incident of attack on Auto rickshaw at Nandigudde of Mangalore South PS limits, one person was caught red hand. On interrogation he was identified to be belonging to the Sree Rama Sene. Based on his information, three more persons who had participated in the incident were arrested. They also belonged to the Sree Rama Sene.

Subsequently, the Mangalore East Police took about 18 persons belonging to Sree Rama Sene who had gathered at Balmatta into preventive custody. They are being produced before the jurisdictional Taluk Executive Magistrate under the preventive sections of CrPC.

Later in the evening another 33 persons who had gathered infront of Mangalore East PS protesting against the arrest of their friends were also rounded up as precautionary measure under sec 71 of the Karnataka Police Act.

In the light of these developments, security has been beefed up in the city. Civil and Armed pickets have been arranged in all sensitive places. In addition, KSRP and DAR striking forces have also been deployed at strategic places in the city.

It is reiterated that stern action will be taken against all mischievous, criminal and anti social elements who try to disturb peace and tranquillity of the area. The people are requested contact the nearest police station or police control room directly if they notice anything unusual in their area.
