Some organizations have called for Puttur bundh on Monday the 10th July 2006 as a protest against the failure of Police in arresting the accused in the 'Akshata Death Case'.
In view of this development, DC DK Mr.Maheshwar Rao and SPDK Mr.B.Dayananda visited Puttur today (09/10/06) to take stock of the situation and review the local law and order. They also held discussions with the local people and representatives of various organizations. Most organizations told them that they are not in support of the bundh as they felt that it is not warranted at this stage. They appealed to the district administration to provide adequate security so as to ensure that the normal life of the area is not affected in any way during tomorrow’s bundh.
Keeping these things in mind, elaborate security arrangements are being made from the district police at Puttur to take care of the law and order during the period of the bundh tomorrow. The Sub divisional Executive Magistrate Puttur has promulgated prohibitory orders U/s 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the congregation/movement of five or more than five persons/carrying of deadly weapons/taking out of any processions/staging of demonstrations....etc in the entire area of Puttur taluk with effect from midnight of 09/07/06 to midnight of 10/07/06. This prohibitory order however will not apply to the weekly shandy at Puttur tomorrow nor will it come in the way of the functioning of the schools and colleges there.
In addition, notices have been issued to the persons who have called this bundh indicating to them that they will be held responsible for any break down of law and order during tomorrows bundh period and they will also be liable for recovery of damages caused to any public property due to this bundh.
Besides the civil police staffs of the district, KSRP and DAR platoons are being deployed in adequate numbers to tackle any kind of eventualities. Police pickets are being arranged in sensitive areas and brisk patrolling by police officers has been arranged for. Additional SP DK Mr.Lokesh Kumar is camping there to supervise the security arrangements.
