Solar Traffic Signal Lights through Private-Public-Partnership (PPP)

MRPL on 27.02.2007

The Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has come forward to sponsor a Solar Traffic Signal light at Mangalore KSRTC Bus stand junction at a cost of Rs. 5.5 Lakhs on the request of Mangalore City Traffic Police. A consent letter to this effect was handed over to SP DK Mr.B.Dayananda by Mr. P.A. Jose Deputy General Manger (Administration) MRPL on 27/02/2007 in the chamber of the Superintendent of Police DK district.

With this, traffic signal lights are going to be installed at two junctions in the city through Private-Public-Partnership (PPP). Already the Canara Bank has come forward to sponsor the installation of traffic signal lights at Bunts Hostel junction at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs. Mr. T.D. Pai Deputy General Manager of Mangalore Circle has already handed over the sanction letter in this regard to the Superintendent of Police D.K. district on 13/02/2007. (See Photo)

The Bharat Electronics is going to set up these signal lights at both junctions. Already the Engineers of Bharath Electronics have visited Mangalore and inspected the places. The work will commence soon.

It may be noted that Mangalore city at present is having signal lights at only 04 junctions. Viz,
  1. Hampankatta Circle
  2. PVS junction
  3. Ambedkar Circle
  4. Saibeen Complex Junction

Hence the Traffic Police took initiative to install signal lights at more such junctions in the city through the co-operation of the Private Sector. Besides the two new places for which Canara Bank and MRPL have come forward to sponsor; signal lights would still be required at 3-4 more places in the city. The DK Police looks forward to more such initiatives from the private sector that would help to streamline the traffic management of Mangalore city
