On 21/11/2006 at 0830 hrs on credible information PSI Mangalore Rural PS along with High Patrol Squad intercepted a Lorrry bearing Reg. No. TN-27-L-4369 at Pumpwell Kankanady village Mangalore Taluk and seized 280 Cans of rectified spirit (each carryng 35 Lts) being transported illegally. They also arrested Sumod C.R. (30) R/o Belakatte House Meenabil Taluk Kottayam District Kerala and Sunil K.V. (26) R/o Neeloor Post Meenabil Taluk Kottayam District Kerala State. The Lorry has also been seized.
Total worth of rectified spirit seized is Rs. 5,25,000/ and value of Lorry Rs. 3,00,000/.
In this connection, a case has been registered in Mangalore Rural PS under Karnataka Excise Act. Both the accused arrested have been produced before the JMFC III court and remanded for judicial custody.
Its learnt that the spirit was being transported from Tamil Nadu to Cochin, Kerala.
