The most wanted criminal of the Dakshina Kannada district and the main conspirator behind the killing of BJP Leader Sukhananda Shetty one Mohammed Rafique @ Mulki Rafique @ kaka (40) R/o Kolche Kambla Mulki Mangalore taluk has been nabbed yesterday (29/12/2006) from a place called Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The arrest has been affected by PI South PS Mr.Venkatesh Prasanna and the special team constituted for the investigation of the case.
On specific information that Mulki Rafique is taking shelter in a house in Tiruttani, the special police team was dispatched to Tiruttani on 26/12/2006. There with the assistance of the local police the team located the hideout of Rafique and nabbed him on the afternoon of 29/12/2006 when the culprit was coming out of his hideout along with his wife Mrs. Fatimat Zohra (38). Both of them were secured by the team and escorted back to Mangalore immediately with the assistance of Tamil Nadu Police.
While Mrs. Zohra (who has also been charged for the conspiracy of killing of Sukhananda Shetty) has been produced before the JMFC II court today morning (30/12/2006) and remanded for judicial custody, Rafique is being quizzed further by a team of police officers to elicit more information about the murder and also about his other activities.
It may be noted here that Mulki Rafique is involved in a total of 18 criminal cases so far. Of these as many as 05 cases are related to murder and 04 cases related to attempt to murder. After committing the Polali Ananthu murder last year (07/06/2005) Mulki Rafique went underground and was not caught so far despite lot of efforts by the district police.
