The Mangalore city police on saturday (19/08/06) evening conducted surprise raids on various internet cafes operating in the city and checked to their ahderence to the law relating to pornogrphy and the Information Technology (Karnataka) Rules, 2004 that prescribe certain guidelines for the runnning of these cyber centers. The raids were conducted under the supervision of Mr. Harishchandra DySP Mangalore City Subdivision and all the Police Inspectors/Police Sub Inspectors of the city.
During these raids, at five cafes pornographic video clippings/photographs were found stored in the hard disks of the computer systems for the purpose of displaying to the customers. Accordingly all these computers and peripherals have been seized and criminal cases have been taken up in the jurisdictional police stations. Total 06 persons responsible for this have also been arrested.
The details of the cases registered are:
1. Mangalore North PS limits (01 case): Raid conducted on Worldview Cyber Center located at Stone building near Lady Goshan Hospital, where in two have been arrested. The names of the arrested are Kasim (52) R/o Pandeshwar Mangalore and Krishna Prasad (22) R/o Velencia Mangalore.
2. Mangalore South PS limits (03 cases):
- One Yatish (25) R/o Bolar the proprieter has been arrested in the raid on Cyberview internet cafe located at Mulihitlu of PS limits.
- One Vinod Periera (27) R/o Ganjimath the proprieter has been arrested in the raid on Cyberzoom internet cafe located at Velencia of PS limits.
- One Devaraj (36) R/o Mannagudde the proprieter has been arrested in the raid on Mobile Communications internet cafe located at Rao and Rao cirlcle of PS limits.
3. Mangalore East PS limits (01 case): Mr.Chandrahas (24) R/o Falnir the owner of Net Galaxy located at Kunil Complex Kankanady has been arrested in this case.
