Puttumonu Murder Case: One More Arrested

The Bantwal Police have arrested one more person in connection with the abduction and murder of Puttomonu (45) a Gram Panchayat member of Ulaibettu Gram Panchayat. The name of the person arrested is Yakub (28) R/o Badria Nagar Mallur village Mangalore taluk. He was arrested by CPI Bantwal Mr. M.K.Ganapathy the IO of the case on the night of 05/08/06 from Madupalla house Manchi locality Ira village of Bantwal taluk where in he had taken shelter in a relative's house. The arrest has been made based on the information disclosed by the first accused Sahul Hamid (23) R/o Badria Nagar Mallur village Mangalore taluk who was arrested by the police on 25/07/06.

The accused Yakub happens to be a close friend of the deceased Puttumonu. For the sake of money promised by Sahul Hamid and others, he contacted the deceased on 08/07/06 and in the pretext of settlement of a dispute he made the deceased to accompany him on a motor cycle to the murder spot at Kudthapadpu of Ira village of Bantwal taluk where the others were waiting. There the accused hacked Puttumonu to death in an isolated place.

The said motor cycle has now been seized by the police from Yakub and the accused has been produced before the court and remanded for judicial custody.

Further efforts by the police are continued to trace the remaining accused in the case.
